ooh there's some bomb-ass changes in this mastodon update

alright will be a brief restart. hopefully. unless it blows up then ah rip check @FakeRobotGamer lol

dreaming of a better world where your ISP gives you a shell and has some easy-to-set-up-and-administer federated services like mastodon and xmpp and thats just like a thing you get with ISP service

reflecting on how weirdly beardhurt jesterman sexualassaultdog was when i chided him for not knowing how to merge upstream as witches.live is injected with powerful new features

whew we're back! docker is a fuck. also the server was at 88 days uptime and got a curse so it had to be rebooted i guess

alright being on the bleeding edge is totally worth it now

alright so! hexagram updated to the latest pixelfed, but there's a weird bug. if your notifications don't work, go to the settings gear, toggle notifications on and off, then reload. then it should work again

ok on my way to crying, had to check up what my buds at counter.social were up to. apparently hackerjester leetspeaksman mcbootlicker who hasnt been touching the core for over a year somehow broke the follow icons in your notifications, like it doesnt show if you follow someone or not in the notification column until you click on their profile? its fuckin weird

also remember when mastodon didn't have the quick icons? its so fucking annoying oh my god

holy fuck the multi-line image description editor rules, also it rules using a version of mastodon's frontend that was released within the last two years and also i dont have to pay to send dms (i just have to pay for everyone to send all the dms :coolhhHHAAAHHH: )

but yeah they seem to think i came to counter.social to like, participate, or because im jealous of it, its pretty fucking funny actually

anyway enough of that claptrap lets check up on how mastodon does some authentication

alright so i figured out i probably want to do the prosody mod option for doing the xmpp login via mastodon, so i started a mod file, tried to figure out how to connect to a postgres database in lua, and i cant seem to use any database libraries because i dont have postgres installed and i dont want to install it because i have it in docker already and i dont want to fuck things up and oh god ok im crying now mission accomplished

tho if anyone can tell me how the hell you're supposed to connect to postgres with lua without downloading the fucking postgres headers hmu

Enter discipleship

just kidding im still doing stupid shit instead of relaxing

though roger mexico (sry i forget who u r on here) brought up a point.... "what if instead of connecting to the database you just passed the username/password to the authenticate endpoint of the mastodon api?"

:blobhyperthink:

not SURE that'd work since i think id need oauth? but worth considering.....

hmm so like normal oauth flow wouldnt work because i dont want to do modified clients

but a direct http login request to authenticate might simplify things, but i feel like theres a horrible fuckin pitfall im not thinking of here

oh yeah i got 5th in tetris 99 and declared myself winner of that
