firearms, references to sexuality
So I was in this lewd group chat, basically lurking for pics... when I notice that about once a week or so the lewds are interrupted by a bunch of pictures of guns and chitty chat about pew pew details.
I realized this is a huge turnoff for me, though I know some people get real hard and/or moist about guns.... 1/??
firearms, references to sexuality
... so I sat to examine this feeling of turned-offness.
It surprised me at least a little. While I don't fetishize guns much, I do appreciate them as defense and hunting devices.
After some examination, I realized that my first reaction when I see a gun is that "someone is going to need a medic soon..." 2/??
firearms, hunting
... in my mind, guns are for getting food, or for armed conflict, or training for either of those.
Bringing home food is great, and I enjoy target shooting, but the presence of a gun means being extra alert to not destroy in the wrong direction.
Can I feel a little extra spicy after shooting? Maybe. But The Looming Possibility of Tissue Damage is a Big Ole Damper in the moment ... 3/??
firearms,
Maybe it's my pessimism, my relationship with Uncle Murphy. I don't even like purse-guns, bc they can as easily be used against oneself.
I just find cultures that lock up their guns and take them out only for practical use and cleaning a lot more relatable.
I'm sort of trying to get my head around having a feeling that Something Good is going to happen when a gun is out.
I mean, even if one is shooting to eat, there is still the taking on of the animal's pain to carry back on the way to the butcher.

firearms, blades, sadism reference
Then again I have *almost* no sadism in me at all. That and the association with the burden of responsibility are probably enough to keep firearms from being sexy to me.
Blades are a totally different story, oddly enough. But there is also a lot more gun violence in my area than knife violence. Knives are for the kitchen, for crafting, and use in fictional scenes in my personal experience.
I'm sure there are people who feel similarly about blades as I do about firearms.
Thanks for attending this exploration.

firearms, hunting
So, I know power is sexy, and guns are a big symbol of power...
I know that a lot of people get really into the details of what makes a beautifully effective machine, and the qualitative experience of shooting.
Personally, I just can't divorce the image of a gun from the ice-bucket feelings of responsibility for accident prevention, or impending battle.
This must be different for people who intentionally display guns.
